Taqueria Zepeda is a brutally simple taco shop; fresh pressed, grilled tortillas. Proteins cooked over open coals. Salsas from scratch. Our taqueria is straight from the streets of Tijuana created by renowned chef Claudette Zepeda.

Zepeda is a Mexican-American chef – who’s competed on both Top Chef and Iron Chef – is bringing her knowledge of regional Mexican flavours to our pop-up taqueria for just a few short months.

Chef Claudette Zepeda grew up bouncing between Tijuana, Mexico and San Diego, California in the US. She competed on both the American and Mexican versions of Top Chef before taking on Ming Tsai in a chocolate-infused battle on Iron Chef and winning with her mextlapique, a dish of steamed fish wrapped in corn husk with cacao butter and mole.

Now she’s bringing her signature Mexican flavours and dishes to Playfair Street with a taco-focused menu that draws from the country’s seven regions.

Corn tortillas will be pressed and grilled fresh daily, then filled with: beef tongue and chile morita tomatillo salsa; crispy-skin pork belly with serrano tomatillo salsa; sirloin steak with avocado mash; or Tijuana-style adobada pork with charred pineapple. There’ll also be a fried cheese dish that’s like a Mexican take on dosa, plus Mexican beers and Margaritas.
